Masks are one of the oldest beautifying treatments. Put on a preparation, leave it ten to twenty minutes, and then wash it off. There are
many different types of masks-having a nourishing, healing, cleansing and an astringent action. These masks whip up the circulation and temporarily iron out wrinkles. Remember, these masks cannot perform miracles, but they do freshen the skin and leave it soft and glowing. They are a useful addition to your regular skin care and should be enjoyed. One of the most important things to remember while using a mask is to relax. Here are a few simple home-made face masks:skin treatment masks
Milk Mask
This is one of the simplest and cheapest masks. Damp some cotton wool with milk and rub it on the face.
Cleansing Mask
Mix the following ingredients in to a paste, apply and leave it for 15 minutes.
1 tablespoon powdered brewer’s yeast
1/2 tablespoon yoghurt
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1teaspoon orange juice
1 teaspoon carrot juice, and
1 teaspoon olive oil
This mask is suitable for all types of skin, particularly if they feel tired and look sluggish or spotty. If the skin is very dry add more oil, and if very oily leave it out. The brewer’s yeast stimulates the flow of blood to the skin and gives the complexion a healthy glow. The yoghurt cleanses the skin thoroughly and fruit juices provide vitamins and minerals.
Buttermilk Mask
Heat a cup of buttermilk and put in to it three tablespoons of elderflower blossoms. Simmer on a very low heat for about 30 minutes, take it off the heat, leave it to cool, and use as face mask. It helps to clean large pores. Both the ingredients used in this mask are known for their bleaching and cleansing properties.
Meal masks
Apply a paste of barley meal, pen-flower and rose water and leave it on for several hours in order to make the skin soft and supple.
Another mask is to mix in to a paste one tablespoon each of finely ground oatmeal and milk, wish a few drops of almond oil. Apply and leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse off.
Carrot and Turnip Mask
Boil the carrot and turnip and make them in to a paste. Apply for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off with milk. This mask leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean. Carrots are rich in vitamin A and turnips are marvelous cleansers.
Oatmeal Mask
Mix in to paste 2 tablespoons dried orange peel, 2 tea spoons oatmeal and 2 tablespoons cold cream. Apply generously all over the face and neck. After 10 to 15 minutes when it is dry, rub it off using and upward circular motion. This leaves the skin smooth and shining.
Potato Mask
Mix 1 tablespoon potato juice in 1 tablespoon fuller’s earth and apply it on the face. Potatoes contain Vitamin C and clean the skin of blemishes. Fuller’s earth absorbs all the dirt and grease from the skin.
Paw-Paw Mask
The paw-paw mask is also known as the papaya mask. Mash two tablespoons of ripe paw-paw flesh and spread over a clean face. Rinse off after 10 to 15 minutes with warm water. After a few days, you will find a remarkable improvement; the skin begins to glow with health.
Luxurious Cleansing Masks
Mash up three strawberries and apply as a mask. Leave on for 10 minutes, and wash off with rose water. Strawberries having slightly acidic properties contain vitamin C, which cleanse the skin, leaving it sparklingly clean.
An equally luxurious recipe consists of mashing and sieving the flesh of half a peach, and mixing it with a table spoon of brandy.
